There are approximately 3,200 homeless people within the City of Atlanta's 130 square-mile footprint. 1 out of 10 are military veterans or survivors of domestic abuse. 2 out of 3 homeless adults in the City of Atlanta are dealing with a serious mental illness or substance abuse issue. Given the enormity of the challenges our society faces, D & C Charity Inc. is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of this vulnerable population through our campaigns and programs. While our efforts are driven by our organization’s singular focus, we spread a wide net by investing in a variety of progressive strategies. D&C- Project Homeless Coalition
After repeatedly visiting the homeless community near the North Avenue MARTA station as a part of our food donation outreach, we started to develop friendships with several of the local community members. One individual that touched the hearts of our chair members and volunteers was a man named Michael. Upon meeting Michael, we were immediately struck by the positivity and hope he radiated, despite his current life situation. He was eager to share his wisdom and experiences with his younger peers and quickly became invested in our initiative. Michael grew from being someone we served to someone who also joined us in making our community contributions. He is one of the more inspirational figures we have had the pleasure of working with.
